The Zekti Crisis

Description

The year is 2265 and there is an ongoing civil war in the Zekti Coalition. Being a newly admitted Federation member, they still possess an independent military but a major rebel faction opposed to UFP integration is an urgent threat. Most of the fighting is in the vicinity of the Erkavan Rift (a massive golden gaseous formation), which makes for a breathtaking backdrop for space battles.

As the fighting leads to the considered use of subspace warheads, the UFP is forced to intervene, with the 2nd Fleet promptly deployed to oversee the cessation of hostilities.

The Zekti Crisis was a fan fiction that I used to follow in a foreign Trek forum. I discovered it through a friend and found it interesting enough to contribute as an artist. It's a Star Trek story obviously, but was presented in a manner similar to Ace Combat. So the majority of the narrative focused on the fighter crews, with some scenes in the capital ships as well. Like Ace Combat, it boasted a superweapon/superfighter, an obligatory tunnel run, had symbolic cultural motifs and featured a rival ace. Combine that with the cowboy diplomacy campiness of TOS and you get an action packed romp.

Sadly, The Zekti Crisis eventually went to the dogs. I heard it wasn't particularly well received (mary-sues, butthurt fanboys and arrogant nitpicking became a rampant problem) so the writer basically rage-quit and promised a re-write. Personally, I thought it was a pretty decent crossover and I certainly understand why people had to criticize things. But I guess the "bashing" and "hating" became too excessive and emotions got riled up in the process. I suppose there is a lesson to be learned here. Fandoms can be a rabid bunch, tread carefully indeed.
