Future Sight

As expected of hardcore Trekkies, they have an axe to grind with the so called "post-millennium" renditions of the starship Enterprise. Namely, the NX-01, the 2009 Connie and the futuristic Enterprise-J are repeatedly burned at the stake. Of course, it is perfectly natural to have an opinion but repeating such grievances ad nauseum is not very productive. Personally, I think it is simply matter of pride. Some Trekkies feel that they should have complete authority and infallible knowledge over their favorite franchise. However, this is a painfully naive expectation.

In my line of work, you have to grasp a certain sense of flexibility. Accept the fact that certain things will never go your way. When that happens you man up and move on. Crying over spilled milk won't change anything. Besides, it makes you look like a spoiled brat or a grumpy old fart. There is a common misconception that behind every Trek artist is an uptight by-the-book purist nitpicker. But that is not who I am. Life is too short for dogmatic inflexibility. For me, Star Trek transcends the intricacies of its minutiae. Every era or incarnation has its own charm and merits. Is that so difficult to comprehend?
