Description

No Trek movie has gotten as much flak as Into Darkness, and there are many reasons why. The fandom has spared no expense in ripping apart the very fabric of STID, such as the re-conceptualization of Khan and the uber ship USS Vengeance.

With all the fiery debates and mud slinging, have you ever seen one of these fanbois admit that they were in the wrong? The truth is, the rabid kind of “Trekkies” are always in the "infallible righteous path" and hate getting any sort of pep talk. There seems to be an insidious fervor among hardcore Trekkies that the godalmighty TOS seems to be immune (or gets a free pass) from any sort of terse or trivial criticsm. On the flip side, excessively criticizing (to the microscopic level) anything else, especially the post-2001 eras seems to be fair game.

"How dare YOU disrespect canon?"

I’ve always kept an adage that it is useless to argue with the fandom, they’ve already made up their minds before the damn debate even started. Let’s face it, mob/crowd elitism and dictatorship is the rule rather than the exception in the most extreme parts of the fandom’s forums/boards and what-not. Because rigid continuity apparently overrules any form of artistic license, and it is painfully difficult for fan artists and the like.

Can you imagine how stagnant Trek could have become if the fanbois were in truly charge? Hell, even the Enterprise-D would have never seen the light of day and every goddamn ship since would be a plastic TOS Constitution. Because “continuity” and “purism” equals “perfect” Star Trek, and the hardcores wouldn’t have it any other way. For the rest of us, well, we’re just the “casuals” with no voice on the matter.

That's the paradox about these "hardcore" Trekkies. Depending on the situation, they're hilariously easy to please and piss off. One second they're creaming in awe of the TOS Enterprise. Then suddenly they're on the fucking high chair the moment you do the 2009 Enterprise. Pretty much every fanboi wants to out-nerd each other in these useless ego debates, these cretins literally rot your brains out. Jesus Christ on a bike, if you're an artist like me: getting "liked" by others for the sake of "accuracy" may just be a fracking bonus at this point. Because remember kids, Jetfreak is not a "real fan", I'll show myself the door.
