Mirage 4000 - French Air Force

The Mirage 4000 was billed as a heavier counterpart to the Mirage 2000. Twin engined and geared for air superiority, it was in the same class as the F-15 or Su-27. However, lack of foreign interest and a failed RSAF bid promptly halted further development. The sole prototype was relegated to a museum in the 1990's.

In many ways, the 4000 became the precursor to Dassault's next airframe. Expertise gained in the project would influence the Rafale - also a twin engine design, but significantly more multifaceted.
