Description

In the late 1960's, Yuktobania's swing-wing solution came in the form of the MiG-23, codenamed "Flogger". Notably influenced by the F-111 and F-4, the MiG-23 was meant to replace the MiG-21 in YAF service. The type was a significant departure from its predecessor - multifaceted electronics allowed look-down/shoot-down radar and BVR capability. However, its inherent complexity meant that it could not replace the MiG-21 in the intended amount. The Flogger was also exported to Yuke friendly nations, and became a lucrative Phantom alternative.

As the YAF modernized throughout the 1970's, the MiG-23's formed the middle tier of Yuktobanian air to air fighters, with the MiG-25 and MiG-21 operating the high and low tiers respectively. The MiG-27 ground attack variant and experimental MiG-32 also highlighted the Flogger's design versatility. The type would have an uneventful career, with the exception of the Tyumen Dispute and Blood War in the 1980's. It was arguably the most notable use of Floggers in aerial combat. Swarm tactics were utilized by YAF forces against the opposition, leading to harrowing losses in both conflicts.
