The stately Excelsior Class has proven time and again that her construction is a master stroke of Starfleet engineering. Even though “the great experiment” was, in the end, a failure, the vessel proved to be a highly durable and reliable design. The Excelsior Class has transcended generations and, while no longer the glory posting it once was, still represents the backbone of Starfleet.
The starship Hood is seen here beside the newly commissioned Enterprise-D, circa 2364. In this meeting of friends, the technological disparity of the two vessels is readily apparent. This clearly shows the remarkable evolution of Starfleet designs.
